The Jenny Packham Spring 2012 Bridal Collection is Softly Pretty

Bridal wear has come a long way from the stiff, over-embellished and froufrou-skirted styles our grandmothers wore, and the Jenny Packham Spring 2012 bridal collection is a prime example of that.

The bridal line is modern, yet touches on the classic look of Grecian gowns, featuring soft draping and gathers that cross beautifully over the body. The styles are elegant and possess a soft prettiness that is often overlooked by designers who just want to put a contemporary spin on bridal wear (and so end up using too-bright colors and patterns). For example, while Packham uses light and subtle print to update the look of traditional wedding wear, she doesn’t go so far as to throw tradition completely out the window. trendhunter

Insight swimwear summer 2012 collection

Australian label Insight has just delivered its 2012 swimwear lookbook. It's a super simple affair; a cute blonde model, a backyard and some bikinis.
It mightn't be the brand's most daring collection yet, but it stays true to its dedication to simple swimwear livened up with cute details and loud prints. Our favourite pieces in the range include the polka dot high-waisted bikini bottoms and the strapless floral onesie – complete with zipper and ruffles.

Even if our picks aren't quite your speed (hey, we're not for everybody, we know that) there's plenty of other options – paisley, block colours with cut-outs, stripes, animal print and geometric patterns. LifeloungeStaff

Does Not Equal spring-summer 2012 collection

Melbourne-based jewellery label Does Not Equal has unveiled its spring/summer 2012 collection called X II. The unisex brand has made 12 key pieces for the range and all of them are super wearable and simple – without being dull.

The stainless steel pieces are heavy on the crosses, Xs and IIs (natch), knuckle dusters, and some pretty lovely teardrop shaped rings. The collection's highlight though, is the anchor pendant, made up of three crosses. Loverly. LifeloungeStaff

D&G is an Italian extension to the famous Italian fashion house Dolce & Gabanna. However, it is more specialized in youthful clothes and men’s accessories for young ages. They produce summer wear, beach wear, youthful jeans, and more trendy attires and stuff.

This spring summer 2011 collection is complete satisfying collections which contains much stuff suitable for beach, travel, sports, and even sleep wear. The suits designed for summer comes in light white and cream colors which are the most common summer colors.

There were also many trendy looks for beach where the man wears a classic short with matching elegant t-shirt or even men classic shirts. They both look well on the beach with the men’s slippers.

White, blue, cream, navy, red, and different degrees of green colors were used in this collection. Whether in men’s classic pants, t-shirts, shirts, or even jackets they all were blend with multiple use of colors. The green color looked great and could bring the collection alive with the white cream shorts and pants.

A good mix between green, beige, and navy was used in the formal apparel and the travel looks. There were also long sleeved leather vests matching to the beach shorts, while the pink or red were used in swim suits and formal shirts over beige pants.

Such a famous bestselling-reputation brand could never forget the leather bags, suit cases and brief cases as they are of high importance to all men.stylisheve

fashion Spring 2012 RTW

To the tinkling strains of a music-box melody, Marc Jacobs unveiled his collection for Louis Vuitton on a bevy of girls sitting atop a carousel of prancing white horses—a wry comment on the current merry-go-round of fashion, perhaps, of which Jacobs himself is a focus of frenzied speculation.

From the prom-queen tiaras that crowned them to their conventional stiletto heels and handbags, vaguely evocative of the Eisenhower era, these girls were brimming with sugar and spice and all things nice—capturing the mood of ironically exaggerated femininity that has swept the runways.

Chez Vuitton, this mood was embodied by the abundant use of eyelet lace forming fields of daisies. To soften the effect even more, these pieces were veiled in sugar-almond-colored organza layers (or misted with shaded ostrich-feather fronds). Skirts were as puffed as Ladurée macarons, the bouffant silhouette starting either from an Empire line just below the bust or erupting at the hip like the party dresses of a 1920s china doll.

Broderie anglaise was used for exaggerated Vandyke collars, and as insets replacing the alternate diamonds on an Argyle knit. It perforated stiff little faille skirt suits and separates made from leather treated to look like scrunched-up sheets of cartridge paper. And in a playful take on the LV logo, it was used for parasols and to aerate clear plastic purses.

Jacobs took delight in treating some classic masculine wardrobe elements to the ultrafeminine makeover—a biker jacket in powdery spring-chick yellow or baby-blue crocodile perhaps, or a sweatshirt trellised in fine silver thread.

The optimistic daisy motif was blown up larger still for with multi-scaled plastic sequins that trembled on some of the prettiest short evening dresses of the season. To emphasize Jacobs’s fashionable volte-face, Kate Moss—last season’s saucy Vuitton dominatrix—was recast for spring as the ballerina on that music box in a gleaming white baby doll frock and Barbie white stilettos.Hamish Bowles

miu miu spring 2012

What do you actually do as a designer when you’ve designated yourself to show in last slot, in the last city, to an audience that has been looking at fashion for four weeks on young models who, by now, are so zombie-tired that the makeup seems to be slipping off their faces? Well, you grab the last shreds of their severely depleted attention spans, and sum up the season for them, if you can. That’s exactly what Miuccia Prada did at Miu Miu, the brand that has been such a runaway success, with the forties dresses and glittery shoes for fall 2011. And she did it all—but only by the skin of her teeth.

“I designed it in fifteen days, right after Prada,” she declared. “With Prada, I think so much. But with Miu Miu, it’s improvisation.” What, even the elaborate, leather boots with their Western-turned–folk art patterns tooled with 3-D roses were made in less than two weeks? And the Provençal prints, all patchworked together? Yes, she shrugged, as if that were almost normal.

Well, Mrs. Prada might be uniquely endowed in having the industrial wherewithal to conjure up a collection midway through the shows, but it takes something rather more than financial muscle to amalgamate the season’s ideas in real time and then still make the whole look particularly your own.

At the beginning of the show, admittedly, it looked as if she wasn’t going to get there. Students of Prada (the label) have already dissected the fact that her acclaimed spring 2012 mainline collection was composed of separates made to seem like total matching looks, which is exactly how Miu Miu began, but with the components more clearly set out: high-waisted A-line skirts, bra tops with cropped, off-the-shoulder capes, and the odd fichu-wrap crossing the body and zipping up in back. All this was delivered in black and gray fabric—a recap of notions about mid-century modern tailoring, perhaps. That, and an intriguing stretchy, shirred midsection piece, like a pull-on, pull-up accessory, with which to cinch in a long shirt. So far, so didactically commercial, but then the show gained traction.

What followed looked increasingly like an ode to a petulant film noir ingenue, someone like the dangerous, corrupted characters of Raymond Chandler’s novels. Gradually, she started putting forth lace trapeze dresses and A-line coats in weird, flat colors like gray and burgundy, worn over peculiar patchworks of acid-yellow and burgundy Provençal patterns, and prints involving micro-tile repeats and Chinese lanterns. Amongst all this, the shoes and boots were a riveting mix of Edwardian velvet, cowboy, and ornate embellishment.

Sound confusing? It wasn’t, but if only because this collection (even if allegedly spontaneously thrown together in haste) stands as a vignette about how to blend many trends in simple-to-wear ways. The red-shadowed eyes, greasy locks of hair, and pallid complexions are optional, of course, although that is how most of the hard-core fashion pack happened to look, too, as they flew away at the end of the show toward a well-earned rest.Sarah Mower

Eva Mendes: She Wears It Well

Eva Mendes out and about in Los Angeles
In an obstinate response to the rain and the approaching official start of British winter my favourite look of this week is Eva Mendes in a long floral dress. Accessorised with a sturdy heeled long boot, a straw basket and a soy latté or whatever it is she's holding aloft, the 37-year-old actress looks elegant and comfortable, which is style mission accomplished in most people's book. Tokyo Girls Collection Street Snaps 2011 S/S

This weekend is a huge one for Japanese fashion fans – at least, for fans of Japanese women’s fashion. Why? Because it’s time for the one-and-only Tokyo Girls Collection fashion show, party, concert, and all-around super-bash. This is the Spring/Summer 2011 Tokyo Girls Collection – and many of the fashion trends on display (and on sale) at this event are sure to rule the Japanese fashion scene in the months to come.

TokyoFashion.com had people both inside and outside of the TGC venue, and we’ve got several reports – and lots of pictures – to share with you. To get things started, we want to show you a sampling of the fashion worn by the girls attending today’s event. This is basically a large Harajuku street snaps update, but every person in these snaps is a girl on her way to Tokyo Girls Collection.

Tokyo Girls Collection 2011

Over 25,000 people (almost all female) were expected to attend Tokyo Girls Collection 2011 S/S at Yoyogi National Gymnasium in Harajuku. We wouldn’t be surprised if there were even more than that! When one of our photographers arrived on the scene well before noon, there were already thousands of girls lined up outside, even though the event didn’t officially start until 3pm.

To kick off our coverage of the event, we decided to wander amongst the big crowd outside of TGC and see if anyone would be willing to pose for street snaps. Luckily for us, the girls who go to Tokyo Girls Collection are so fun and friendly that we didn’t have any problem finding volunteers – lots and lots of them. The pictures that you see below are just a tiny sample of the cute fashions being worn by attendees. Tokyo Girls Collection is a fashion show, but it’s also a huge party. Many of the girls going to the event get into the spirit of things and dress up for the occasion, as you’ll see below.

As for fashion trends that we picked up on while watching the TGC crowd, there were two huge ones that were obvious right away. The first trend we could have predicted just by looking at this year’s Fukubukuro sales – glasses with no lenses (we call them “Tsubasa Glasses”). They’ve been around for several years, of course, but the percentage of girls wearing them today was extremely high. The second trend that was everywhere today was gray knee-high socks. You can see several variations on this theme in the pictures below. Not sure exactly where this very specific trend came from, but it’s hot hot hot.

Pictures are better than any explanation, so go ahead and take a look below. You’ll get a good idea of what was going on outside of Tokyo Girls Collection. In our next update, we’ll take you inside of the event where the models, music, and fashion shows were going non-stop all day and into the night! Don’t forget that you can click on all of the photos to see high resolution versions! tokyofashion

Tokyo Girls Collection Street Snaps 2011 Autumn/Winter

It’s that time of the year again in Tokyo – the time when tens of thousands of fashion-conscious young Japanese women come together to cheer on their favorite models, listen to their favorite singers, and buy the absolute newest looks from their favorite fashion brands. Yes, you guessed it – it’s the practically-sold-out-before-tickets-went-on-sale Tokyo Girls Collection 2011 Autumn/Winter event!

Tokyo Girls Collection

Tokyo Girls Collection – or TGC – is part fashion show, part concert, part shopping event, and all fun. Fashion labels catering to young women present their collections on the TGC runway, often worn by famous Japanese magazine models. The items on the catwalk can be bought via mobile phone websites while the show is in progress.

TokyoFashion.com had people both inside and outside of of TGC at Saitama Super Arena this weekend. In our upcoming reports, we’ll show you the clothes, models, and musicians that graced this season’s Tokyo Girls Collection catwalk. First, though, we wanted to give you a look at some of the girls who attended Tokyo Girls Collection. We took street snaps outside of the event as the crowds were getting ready for the show to begin. Seeing what the crowd is wearing can give you a glimpse at current trends just as much as the models on stage predict future trends.

Tokyo Girls Collection Street Fashion
Unlike our Spring/Summer Tokyo Girls Collection street snaps (where gray over-the-knee socks were everywhere), there was no single fashion trend that stood out above all others. We noticed a lot of bright red/pink lipstick, high waists on shorts and skirts, polka dots, and hats. But overall, it seems like we may be in between major trends right now. Perhaps our upcoming report on what the TGC brands were promoting for Fall/Winter will change all of that. Update – here is our Tokyo Girls Collection Fashion Brands report, with over 200 more exclusive pics!

In the meantime, enjoy these Tokyo Girls Collection Autumn/Winter 2011 street snaps. Don’t forget that you can click on all of the pictures to see high resolution versions! Also, there was a major storm lashing Tokyo on the day of the event – so please forgive any wind-blown hair on the girls we photographed. tokyofashion

Fedora Hat is a wonderful accessory for men and women's clothing! You can wear a hat on bad days and good days. they are many types of hats that you can wear with a variety of clothes from day to day. now what do you want to be seen in if you wear a fedora hat, when you wear a fedora, you have to wear it with style and class. Initially women's clothing into the 20th century, the fedora came into use around the year 1919, as male and female middle-class clothing accessory. Through out the 40 and 50's Fedora is a symbol of style. fadzs

1940s Men's Styles

When shopping for vintage men's clothing, here are some styles that you may come across that are still wearable today.

Eisenhower Jacket

Short collared jacket cropped and nipped in at the waist. The style was popularized in the '40s when General Dwight Eisenhower took to wearing it. There are many different versions of this type of jacket with varying lengths and fabrics.

Zoot Suit

Ultra tapered and ultra high waisted trousers and extra long jackets with broad padded shoulders were the components of a zoot suit. In bright colors and bold patterns the brash suit made quite a statement in a somber wartime. Worn by younger men mostly in the jazz music and swing dancing scenes, the zoot suit is an unforgettable look.

Fedora
Usually made of felt, the fedora or trilby as it is called in the UK, is instantly recognizable by its pinched in sides. Worn by gangsters, detectives and super human archeologists alike, the fedora is the most popular hat in all of men’s fashion history. The 1940’s were the fedora’s last days as hats started fall out of favor in the late 50s, though it is often revived in men’s and women’s fashions every few years. Ashley Kane

Men's Fads and Fashions of the 60s

The 1960s was the first dacede to see men's fashion really diverted from its classic roots. There became a lot more options than the suit and tie, here are some of the trends that really caught on:

Turtlenecks

A staple in the men’s wardrobe revitalization of the 1960s; turtlenecks were paired with everything from a blazer, to a sweater, to a vest. Every color and construction of turtleneck was worn by men in the 60s, beatniks preferred black of course.

Nehru Collar

Used in both jacket and shirt collars, this Indian inspired look has a mandarin type stand up collar and is tight fitting with small butons from neck to waist. Famous nehru wearers include The Beatles, The Monkees, and Dr. Evil.

Mod
Form fitted shirts, suit jackets with narrow lapels, and drainpipe pants was the mod silhouette. The “no-waist” style of the 60s was emphasized with the aptly nicknamed “hipster” pant that sat well below the belly button. These drastic changes in cut and fit for men's clothing was the first time men's fashion had diviated from the classic suit since the zoot suit of the 1930s.

Buffalo Plaid Shirt

Not just for lumberjacks; in the 1960s the buffalo plaid shirt was popular with all walks of life; from hippies and dads. Though the silhouette is formal, the laidback print and material (usually flannel) of the plaid shirt made it a men's causal staple.  Ashley Kane

MEN'S CLOTHES 60'

1960s fashion for men was not as revolutionary as it was for women but there was a lot of change. Ties, belts and lapels got wider, collars got longer and wider and a modified version of the bell bottom called "flared" became popular. The conserative men's suit took on some geometric design along with the flare in the pants leg and wider lapels. Sport shirts were the norm for causal wear with the polo style being the most popular.

Men were not immune from the British invasion however and some very Mod influences managed to creep into what was once the ultra conserative men's business attire. Patterns grew bolder as did color choices. No longer were blue, black or grey the only suit choices. Ties and shirts became more colorful as well.
Mod wasn't the only influence on mens styles, the anti-establishment hippie movement was bringing with it an "anything goes" philosophy that allowed for greater choice in clothing. Vests were worn without the suit, men were wearing sports jackets with slacks (instead of a suit), and suits with no tie, not to mention all kinds of mix matched patterns and colors.

Although hippie clothing influenced main stream style to a certain degree it never caught on as an everyday fashion.
While the movie Easy Rider was showcasing hippie style the average school kid was still dressing very conseratively. fiftiesweb
